Despite being one of the NHL's standout goalies this season with the Avalanche, Scott Wedgewood won't make Team Canada for the Winter Olympics.

Wedgewood has led the Avalanche to the best record in the NHL, and carried most of the load while Mackenzie Blackwood was recovering from offseason surgery.

Wedgewood might not get the call for Team Canada despite strong start to the season.

Ryan O'Hara of The Hockey News reported on the lack of time Wedgewood had to make his case for the Olympics.
Despite ranking among the NHL's top 5 goalies this season, his limited games make it unlikely Team Canada will choose him.
"Hockey Canada recently announced that the Olympic roster would be unveiled on New Year's Eve, and according to a recent report, Scott Wedgewood is not in the running to be one of the three Canadian goalies named to the team. However, his teammate Mackenzie Blackwood remains in the running. On a recent TSN Insider segment, NHL insider Pierre LeBrun reported that Team Canada has narrowed its goalie pool to four candidates, including Mackenzie Blackwood, Logan Thompson, and former Avalanche netminder Darcy Kuemper." -O'Hara

It's peculiar that Blackwood is in the running when Wedgewood has arguably been better this season, if not equally as good, and certainly deserves consideration. Wedgewood's numbers this season, and since joining Colorado, have been nothing short of sensational.
"Now 22 games into the season, Wedgewood has compiled a 15-1-4 record, pairing a 2.10 goals against average with a career-high .920 save percentage. Equally noteworthy is the manner in which Jared Bednar and the Avalanche have managed his workload. Wedgewood has made nine fewer starts than New York Rangers goaltender Igor Shesterkin, yet despite the substantial disparity in usage, the two netminders are level in wins." -O'Hara

It's disappointing that Wedgewood won't even get a look, but at least his teammate Blackwood is in the running. Team Canada is said to have one clear weakness: goaltending. Compared to other countries, they are noticeably lacking in that department.
Let's hope snubbing Wedgewood doesn't come back to haunt them when it matters most.
