The Colorado Avalanche aim to keep their potential record-breaking season alive tonight as they take on the Utah Mammoth. This Central Division clash marks their final game before the Christmas break, following a dominant victory over the Minnesota Wild.

Both Cale Makar and Nathan MacKinnon are on historic runs, and it will take all of the Mammoth's effort to slow them down tonight.

Avalanche and Mammoth collide in pre-Christmas clash.

Coby Maeir of NHL.com broke down tonight's highly anticipated divisional matchup. The Avalanche are continuing their incredible season, while the Mammoth are in the hunt for a playoff spot.
Colorado needs to maintain their momentum, as the Dallas Stars sit just four points back. With the Central Division as competitive as ever, the Mammoth will be fighting hard for a wildcard spot. Meanwhile, the Avalanche are riding high after their dominant visit to Minnesota.
"Cale Makar and Brock Nelson both posted a goal and two assists as the Avalanche defeated the Minnesota Wild 5-1 at Grand Casino Arena on Sunday. Nathan MacKinnon scored twice, Martin Necas added a tally while Gabriel Landeskog and Valeri Nichushkin each posted two assists. In net for Colorado, Mackenzie Blackwood stopped 28 of the 29 shots he faced and picked up his 11th win of the season" -Maeir

The Mammoth enter tonight's matchup riding high after a big Central Division win over the Winnipeg Jets, who recently welcomed back Connor Hellebuyck. Utah has spread the scoring load effectively, with multiple players hitting the 30-point mark, and their blue line contributing offensively as well.
"Dylan Guenther leads the Mammoth in goals (16) while ranking third in points (30) and fifth in assists (14).Mikhail Sergachev leads the Mammoth in assists (21) and is fifth on the team in points (25). Keller and Nick Schmaltz are both tied for the team lead in points (32), tied for second in assists (20) and tied for fourth in goals (12)." -Maeir

With their next game not until December 27th, the Avalanche have no excuse not to give a full effort tonight and secure the two points.
