Sometimes the Colorado Avalanche stumble into a perfect fit, and Victor Olofsson quietly became one during a tight cap season with playoff expectations.

Colorado has survived injuries, cap gymnastics, and uneven depth scoring this season, yet Olofsson has steadily delivered value that outkicks his contract. Signed for modest money, he gave Jared Bednar a trustworthy scoring winger without lineup drama.

Colorado Avalanche can't afford to lose Victor Olofsson in free agency.

Nestor Quixtan from Mile High Sticking highlighted this exact concern in its recent breakdown, framing Olofsson as a player Colorado simply cannot lose without creating another hole.
Victor Olofsson arrived with a clear label as a shooter, but his game in Denver has rounded out. He has chipped in timely goals, handled middle six minutes, and avoided becoming a defensive liability.
Through 35 games, Olofsson posted seven goals and 19 points, production that stacks up well among Avalanche secondary forwards. At a $1.575 million cap hit, that efficiency matters more than raw totals.
Colorado's roster construction makes this conversation unavoidable. Nathan MacKinnon, Mikko Rantanen, and Cale Makar drive the cap structure, which means value contracts behind them must hit.
This is the part fans notice, because Colorado has been burned before by depth scorers vanishing when contracts end. Watching Olofsson find soft ice and finish chances feels familiar in the best way.
The Avalanche do not have many internal replacements ready to replicate that offense cheaply. Prospects still need time, and free agency rarely offers bargains without risk attached.
Letting Olofsson walk would likely force Chris MacFarland back into the same uncomfortable market that created past stopgap signings. Paying more for similar production is not a smart loop to repeat.
There is also stylistic fit to consider. Olofsson's shooting complements MacKinnon-driven zone time, especially when defenses collapse low. That skill does not grow on trees.
The Avalanche can survive losing role players, but losing value is harder to absorb. Olofsson has been value almost every night.
If Colorado wants stability behind its stars, keeping Victor Olofsson feels less like a luxury and more like unfinished business heading into the offseason.
