Taylor Makar, the younger brother of Cale Makar, was selected by the Colorado Avalanche in 2021. After standing out at the University of Maine, he's now focused on stepping out of his brother's shadow and establishing his own identity with the Colorado Eagles.

Makar is a big power forward who had an impressive senior season, and hopes to continue his success at the professional level.

Avalanche prospect Taylor Makar ready to make a name for himself.

Carlynn Claypool from AHL.com recently wrote on the progression of the younger Makar brother.
The forward took a significant step last season after transferring from UMass to Maine for his senior year, putting together an impressive 30-point performance over 38 games.
"In the first 16 games of his rookie season with the Eagles, Makar has tallied one goal and three assists, and he has been recalled by the Avalanche twice. He made his NHL debut on Nov. 1 - the highlight of his career to date. Makar's ability to open up the ice and create opportunities hasn't gone unnoticed by his teammates, who've said they think it's awesome he's getting called up at this point in his career." -Claypool

Makar is a strong, physical forward who keeps his game straightforward but effective, working hard, pressuring defenders, and forcing turnovers.
He may not be the one to drive the play, but he's the type of player who can finish it. His captain, Jayson Megna, had plenty of praise for the rookie.
"He's a big power forward. I like the way he skates; he's not afraid to use his body. He's a north-south player, and he's really effective when he gets in on the forecheck, creates a lot of problems for their 'D' and scoring chances for our team." -Megna

Makar has already earned a few call-ups to the Avalanche, and if his development continues at this pace, it's very possible the Makar brothers could share the ice in Colorado for years to come.
