Los Angeles Kings have choice words for Colorado Avalanche following loss on Monday
The Los Angeles Kings became the latest team to fall to the surging Colorado Avalanche, losing 5-2. Despite a strong effort, forwards Adrian Kempe and Joel Armia shared their post-game thoughts.
The game came down to the Avalanche converting on the few giveaways and takeaways they created to give them the upper hand.
Kings cannot get passed Avalanche, despite best effort.
Andrew Miller of Rink Royalty reported on the post-game recap between the Kings and Avalanche from Monday night.
It was a hard-fought battle, but attention to detail ultimately swung the game in the Avalanche's favor, along with their ability to capitalize on limited scoring chances in a tightly contested matchup.
"But the Avalanche converted on more opportunities and giveaways from turnovers that were costly that caused the Kings to fall short yesterday in the final frame in the third period by a score of 5-2 in Colorado on the road." -Miller
Both Kempe and Armia felt the Kings did enough to win, pointing to their strong forecheck, limited time and space for Colorado, and a shorthanded goal. Ultimately, beating this Avalanche team requires near-perfect execution, and the Kings fell just short.
"I think me, I had a breakaway there, Kopi had a couple chances, Perrs had an open net, they blocked, and then they come down the other way and scored on a not as good of a chance. It stings when you miss those opportunities. We've got to be better, personally, I've got to be better, bear down on our chances. I think scoring is the main issue right now." -Kempe
Armia echoed similar sentiments, noting that while the Kings are playing well, generating chances, and giving up very little defensively, they simply aren't scoring enough to win.
By contrast, the Avalanche are firing on all cylinders offensively while remaining extremely sound at the back, and that gap ultimately decided the game.
