It's been 30 years since the Quebec Nordiques moved to become the Colorado Avalanche, and team president Joe Sakic recently said he'd love to see the Avalanche head to Quebec City for a game while wearing the classic Nordiques jerseys.

The Avalanche launched their retro Nordiques jerseys this year to commemorate their 30 year anniversary and the team's heritage.

Joe Sakic wants to the Colorado Avalanche to play in Quebec City.

Bardown recently shared Sakic's comment confirming there's real interest in playing a game in Quebec City. While some fans see it as rubbing salt in an old wound, Sakic's intentions are clearly positive, he wants to honor the franchise's history.
Colorado Avalanche President of Hockey Operations and Quebec Nordiques alum Joe Sakic says he and the organization "would love to play a game in Quebec City."
The Avalanche wore the Nordiques jerseys for the first time this season in a matchup against the Carolina Hurricanes, who suited up in their retro Hartford Whalers uniforms. While the game generated plenty of excitement, it also drew significant criticism.
Many fans voiced frustration that current teams profit from the heritage of former franchises by selling throwback jerseys and merchandise, despite those relocations leaving lasting wounds in the cities they once called home.
Personally I think that would be insulting. Stealing their players, history & records, winning the Cup the year after they move and not getting a sniff of another team is flat out wrong
As a fan of the sport, I think hosting a game in Quebec City would be a terrific idea. Teams relocate to survive, Arizona had to move two years ago, and Atlanta did the same over a decade ago.
If a franchise can't generate enough revenue to stay afloat, backlash over relocation doesn't make much sense. Instead of ignoring that history, the Avalanche want to honor it by returning to Quebec and playing for the fans who supported the Nordiques.
Sakic's intentions are genuine, and the hockey world should embrace opportunities like this rather than tear them down.
