Former Stanley Cup champion and Colorado Avalanche forward Nazem Kadri has made headlines by donating generously to two food banks, one in London and one in Calgary, with support from his current team, the Calgary Flames.

Kadri has always been active in his community, and despite the Flames' poor season, and Kadri's trade rumours, he's still proving to the hockey community why he's the ultimate leader.

Nazem Kadri makes two large donations with help from the Calgary Flames.

Laurence Heinen of NHL.com reported on the generosity of Kadri and the Flames, who donated $100,000 to food banks across Canada just before the holiday season. While Kadri has been involved in trade rumours since the season began, it hasn't distracted him from helping those who need it most.
"The Flames, they've been very generous over the years I've been here in helping support my foundation and collaborating on a few occasions. «It's always nice to have people that really care and take pride in this sort of thing and we couldn't be happier. It feels incredible. With the foundation, we're just doing our part. Obviously, it's where I'm from and the community I was raised around, so it's always nice to give back to them." -Kadri

Kadri, a native of London, Ontario, donated to his hometown as well as his current city of Calgary. Teammates MacKenzie Weegar and Mikael Backlund were also in the giving spirit this season, and with the support of the Flames Foundation, a great deal of good was done during the Christmas season.
"I'm a part of the community here as well, so I just felt like it was as important to do that. The Flames were able to match what I gave, so we were able to double up the money and collaborate again. I think around this time of year, especially for the holidays, is the most important time to give back and that's a thrilling feeling." -Kadri

Moments like these remind us that hockey is about more than just what happens on the ice, it's an opportunity to do real good in the world.
Sports bring people together and can be a powerful force for supporting meaningful causes. It's encouraging to see players at the highest level understand the impact they can have on people who truly need it.
