What a night in Denver for the Colorado Avalanche as they crushed the Montreal Canadiens 7-2 to extend their point streak to 16 games and underline their dominance this season.

Nelson opened the scoring early in the first with a wrist shot at 7:32, a milestone goal that marked his 600th career NHL point.
Less than six minutes later, Gabriel Landeskog made it 2-0 after a Nelson shot deflected off Landeskog and into the net.
Colorado kept piling it on. Brent Burns struck for a quick 3-0 lead early in the second period.
Nelson found the back of the net again to push it to 4-0.

Nelson, Landeskog and MacKinnon all shine

Ryan Boulding from NHL.com writes that the Canadiens got a brief spark when Ivan Demidov scored, cutting the lead to 4-1. But just before the intermission Nathan MacKinnon buried a rebound for his 20th goal of the season to make it 5-1.
In the third, Devon Toews wired in another for Colorado.
Montreal's Lane Hutson scored on the power play but it was too little too late.
Landeskog closed out the scoring with a power-play goal off a MacKinnon feed.
Colorado looked ruthless in all zones. Nelson delivered four points, Landeskog scored twice, MacKinnon piled up a goal and two assists and Martin Necas added three assists.
The Avs were dominant from puck drop through final buzzer. Their 13-0-3 run over 16 games now includes this convincing win.
Blackwood stopped 21 shots for Colorado, while Montreal's goalie faced tough ends after a strong effort.
So many moving parts clicked perfectly for the Avs tonight, hard forecheck, crisp passing, lethal finishing. Colorado didn't just win, they made a statement. I'd bet fans leave Ball Arena feeling a lot more confident about this team's run.
