The trade chatter around Kiefer Sherwood has officially gone global, and the Vancouver Canucks may be looking at a full-blown bidding war. Several clubs, including Colorado Avalanche, are now reportedly in on the mix.
Sherwood, 30, is having a strong 2025-26 season with 12 goals and counting, and his combination of scoring touch and physicality makes him one of Vancouver's most attractive pending UFAs.
Avalanche take notice after Sherwood trade market continues to heat up.
Edward Jaxon from Canucks Daily writes that high interest in Sherwood continues to span the league. As of now clubs like Boston Bruins, Detroit Red Wings, Buffalo Sabres, Minnesota Wild, New York Islanders and San Jose Sharks have already called Vancouver about him.
On top of those, insiders say Colorado, Dallas Stars, Montreal Canadiens and New Jersey Devils are also interested.
"They have 100 percent called on both players. They want scoring and believe that with some more, this team can definitely stay in the race and make some noise." A source said to James Murphy of RG.org.
"I was told the Islanders, Sabres, and Red Wings also expressed interest in Sherwood, too." Another source informed Murphy.
Vancouver seems willing to demand a first-round pick or strong prospect in return.
If the Avalanche really enter the race in earnest, this could shift to one of the biggest bargaining chips at next season's trade deadline.
For fans, it's easy to see why Sherwood is drawing such wide interest, 12 goals already show he's more than a grinder. But carrying weight up front is exactly what many clubs, including Colorado, seem to be searching for.
As we approach 2026's deadline window, Sherwood might not be in Vancouver much longer. That leaves a real question for the Avalanche: is he a short-term rental or a long-term fit if they land him?
