The Colorado Avalanche sent Ivan Ivan back to the Colorado Eagles in a small but telling roster shuffle.

Colorado made the move on Saturday, and it fits the pattern of recent depth adjustments that keep the bottom six fluid. Ivan, a 22 year old center who went undrafted in 2022, has shown steady growth this fall.
He logged limited minutes in his short NHL stint, yet his energy stood out on controlled exits and quick support routes. Colorado values that detail, especially when injuries start to nibble around the edges.

The Avalanche have reassigned Ivan Ivan to the Colorado Eagles.

The Eagles will likely use him in a top nine role, giving him the puck more often and letting him work inside the dots. His AHL production last season reached 36 points, and the staff believes he can push that number higher.
This reassignment also hints at Colorado wanting more predictability from its fourth line. Coaches have asked for tighter spacing and cleaner neutral zone touches, and Ivan should get the runway he needs by returning to the AHL.
Fans usually take these moves in stride, but many still see upside in his vision and his pace, so this reassignment brings a mix of relief and curiosity. It feels like another incremental step rather than a setback.
From a development angle, the timing makes sense. The Eagles just started a stretch of home games, and the coaching staff can control matchups that speed up decision making for young forwards.
Colorado still has cap space flexibility, but call ups will hinge on performance rather than name recognition. Ivan can force the conversation again if he stacks efficient nights and drives possession against veteran AHL centers.
The Avalanche continue to chase cleaner five on five sequences, and anyone who can help them tilt the ice remains in the conversation. Ivan circles back into that mix if he adds a stronger forecheck layer during his Eagles reps.
For now, the move lands softly, and the next milestone is simple, produce consistent minutes in Loveland and earn the next phone call.
